The equations for respiration and photosynthesis are exactly the same, only the opposite direction (that doesnt make sense at all lol.. but you'll understand what i mean in a minute =])
The equation for respiration is ..
GLUCOSE + OXYGEN > CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER
And the equation for photosynthesis is ..
CARBON DIOXIDE +WATER > GLUCOSE + OXYGEN
(.. So they are opposite)
Photosynthesis can only occur in light , where as respiration occurs all the time.
