Generally speaking bicycling is considered to be a good way to exercise, low impact and all that. But there's a right way and a wrong way to do everything, even bicycling. Use too high gears, or a poorly sized/adjusted bike and you can get in trouble.

Like any activity, there's a right way and a wrong way of doing it. Riding a poorly fitted bike can cause you to overexert some parts of your body. Riding too far or too hard can also cause injuries, particularly if you do it too soon after starting riding.

Not using the right pedalling technique can put undue strain on your knees.

Riding in unsuitable places, in heavy traffic w/o knowing the rules and the signs can also be dangerous. If you're prone to Asthma the exhaust from the cars may cause you discomfort. Riding on the sidewalk or on shared paths, you run the risk of colliding with pedestrians.
