How is sacred scripture the word of God?

Answer:
A sacred song is a "canticle."

Answer

This question assumes a lot. Sacred refers to something which is set apart as consecrated or holy, devoted to a higher power or ideal. Scripture is just a fancier way of saying "writings." With this in mind, there are sacred scriptures devoid of a specific God or pantheon of gods.
The Word of God, that is, the sayings of God, would surely fit the bill of "sacred." If they were then written down they would become "scripture."
Ultimately, we enter debates when we discuss whether the Bible is the word of God or the words of men who believed they had a handle on what God wanted to say.
It often boils down to, "These are writings we hold as sacred. This is because they reveal the will of divibity. Thus to follow them is to follow our God. To deny the words is to deny God." Bingo. Built-in devotion and penalties for not following them.
