The Jewish Bible is called the Tanach. The word Tanach is an acronym made from the names of its three sections: Torah (Teachings), Nevi'im (Prophets), K'tuvim (Writings).
The Christian Old Testament is a translation of the Tanach but was altered to support the teachings of Christianity. Smaller changes are grammar alterations, word changes, numbering of verses. One of the most notable changes is that in the Tanach, the book of Daniel is a part of writings as he did not qualify as a full prophet. However, in the Christian Old Testament the book of Daniel is included in the prophets section.
A quick look at the names of the sacred Jewish books implies that they constitute the O.T. and are the same thing.
The books of the Jewish Bible are:
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, the Twelve Minor Prophets (Hosea, Joel, etc.), Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra & Nehemiah, and Chronicles.
However, there are some important differences.
One difference is that the Jewish Bible (the Tanakh) is only in the original Hebrew. Any translation, whether done by Jews or Gentiles, is no more than an indication of what the Tanakh is saying. The verses of the Tanakh have an accompanying oral tradition, they have a traditional musical chant (cantillation, which provides punctuation and emotion), and many verses teach us a number of things.
Another difference is that the Christian Old Testament may contain a few books that are not in the Tanakh (such as the books of Judith and Sirach [and others] which are in the Catholic O.T.).
the new testament
Hebrew Bibles contain 24 books divided into 3 parts: The Torah, The Prohets, and the Writings. Christian Bibles contain 66 books, divided into 2 parts: The Old Testament (39 books) and the New Testament (27 books) (Christians subdivide many books that Jews do not subdivide).
There are 66 books in the Bible. 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.
One may buy a Greek New Testament Bible through the vendor "Christian Book". They have a couple different formats and sizes for Greek bibles and have fair prices.
Catholic bibles and Protestant bibles contain the same 27 books in the New Testament.
There are a total of 27, twenty seven books in the New Testament. You may see Apocryphal (or Deuterocanonical) books in the Old Testament of Catholic and Greek Orthodox bibles such as the book of Tolbit or Judith, but you won't see Apocryphal books in the New Testament of mainstream Christian bibles.
Yes. The Catholic Bible is a different translation and has more books in the Old Testament.
The 24 books of the Hebrew Bible are the same as the 39 books of the Protestant Old Testament, only divided and ordered differently: the books of the Minor Prophets are in Christian Bibles twelve different books, and in Hebrew Bibles, one book called "The Twelve".
most Bibles are, but some special ones are especially made to only consist of Old/New Testament.
The Old Testament andThe New Testament.
There are 39 books or 46 books in the Old Testament scripture depending on which Biblical canon you accept. The Protestant Bibles have 39 books and the Catholic Bibles have 46 which include an additional 7 Apocrypha books. New Testament cannon is 27 books in both Protestant and Catholic Bibles.
