How is the scientific method a feedback loop?

Answer:

Answer

  • The scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments.
  • The steps of the scientific method are to:
    • Ask a Question
    • Do Background Research
    • Construct a Hypothesis
    • Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment
    • Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion
    • Communicate Your Result

In one way, the Scientific Method can be seen as a problem solver. One asks a question, he or she studys the subject and tries to answer his question by using the information he has gathered. Next he will try to prove the answer correct by comparing the results of the experiment with the what he thinks is the answer. If the new information does not support what he thought was a possible answer, he will need to go back and ask a new question and go down the steps again, modifying if possible by using the new information so he will come closer to his answer when he compares them again.

The feedback loop is in the need to go back to the "Asking a Question" stage should the experiment stange not support the answer stage (Hypothesis).
