Arteries have thicker walls than veins because they are carrying blood away from the heart and so, in a sense, are working harder. Veins have thinner walls and contain valves to stop blood flowing backwards.

Arteries are thick walled,it is so because they carry blood with high pressure,so that the walls may not collapse.Veins are blue in color as the color of their impure blood. Their thickness is medium. On the other hand capillaries have very thin permeable walls because a lot of materials are transferred at their walls.

Arteries and veins get thinner and thinner at their joining ends to form capillaries.

The three types of blood vessels serve the function of tubular circulation, in the circulatory system. Arteries carry oxygenated blood throughout the body from the heart, veinscarry deoxygenated blood from throughout the body back into the heart, and capillaries are branched vessels that connect veins and arteries.

(Please note that the pulmonary and the umbilical arteries/veins carry deoxygenated/oxygenated blood, respectively; these are the exceptions.)

How are the structures of arteries capillaries and veins similar and how are they different?

The structures of arteries, capillaries, and veins are all different, because of their different functions. The only way that they are similar is because they are hollow, and have some elasticity.

How is the circulatory system similar to a road and highway?

Large arteries and veins are like high-capacity highways, and they branch into smaller capillaries which go all through the body, so capillaries are like roads.
