"Cherry Quartz" is a beautiful manmade glass from China, a mixture of clear glass and swirls of deep pink. It is made from glass melted in a furnace then combined with a colouring agent to produce the swirling inclusions or "needles" that give it its unique look. The glass is then cooled, cut, & polished like a gemstone. It has been said to attract love.
Cherry quartz is a man-made, rather than a natural occurring material. It is actually a glass in which red (and sometimes other colored) inclusions are made during the formation process. I read (but could not confirm) that the inclusions are copper. My understanding is that a single manufacturer in China exists for this decorative glass.

Both sand and quartz have the elements silicon and oxygen. It is a crystalline structure. The crystalline structures of sand and quartz are slightly different.
Most sand is made up mostly of pulverized quartz. Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals on Earth and is composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2). When rocks containing quartz break down due to weathering and erosion, they form sand, which is primarily made up of small particles of pulverized quartz.
