I just lost my mother, who had Alzheimer's for 12 or so years. She refused to eat for several weeks and then also refused ANY liquids. She failed fast after that. In 2 days, we were by her side till the end. But those last few hours were absolutely heartbreaking even tho we had her on hospice and their motto is "to keep them comfortable". I saw no comfort for her when the 'death rattle' took over. It sounds something like they are drowning. A sort of bubbling. Hard to explain,. but you will never forget it when you've heard it and watched someone die with it. I never knew, I will never forget.......
3/3 - starts a a small gurgle once in awhile then builds - it is very helpful to hear to know a person is in their last hours so you know not to leave their side - hard to hurry up and wait in the last days of a person's life, but the death rattle is helpful however hideous it sounds - it doesnt scare you if you know it inevitably comes... God bless my mom. May she now rest in peace.
not everyone may be the same but i felt it gurgling in my dads lungs and within 4 hours later he was gone. after they took him off the ventalator he lived 3 days in a self induced coma. he had some foamy blood come out of his mouth on the 2nd day that evening i felt the gurgling at around 10pm by 215 he was gone.
it varies. A undecidable noise that lasts seconds but never forgotten. This noise was heard 2 hours before the death.
It depends on other symptoms the patient might be experiencing.
If your a Christian no Longer than 4 minutes, but if you are a non christian it could last 24 hours or more
Within seconds to minutes.
What is making the rattle sound? If it is a rattle-snake, the rattle is to warn anything the rattle-snake believes is a danger to the snake, to keep away.
A true 'death rattle' is a type and quality of breathing sounds from the lungs. It signifies impending death. Therefore, no, a death rattle would not go on for weeks in humans or animals. If you hear a gurgling, rattling sound from a dog's throat, are you sure the dog doesn't have something--a toy, bone, etc.--stuck in its throat; you should take it to a vet.
Yes they do I Just watch my Dog Cubby 2 1/2 yrs old die on Dec 3 and he let out the death rattle right before he let out his last breath . it was the worst sound in the world and I can't get it out of my head

No, a death rattle means you ARE dead.
Loud dry rattle,like Hairy Woodpecker.
Death rattle is a gurgling or rattling sound sometimes made in the throat of a dying person, caused by loss of the cough reflex and passage of the breath through accumulating mucus.
The death rattle sound is caused by the accumulation of excessive respiratory secretions in the throat. Those who are dying may lose their ability to swallow, resulting in such an accumulation. At this point, they are usually unconscious or close to death and probably not aware of it happening at all.
A rattle.
When any species of animal including cats presents with the death rattle, this means that they are dying. The death rattle is the expulsion of air as the last breath is taken.
No.
Rattle, because its sound loosely approximates the sound made by the thing it describes.
