I'm not sure of the answer to this question, but i have noticed lately that i am 'relactating'. My little one is 10.5 months old and i had to stop breastfeeding at 2 months due to a lactose intolerance problem and have been on formula ever since. Only in the past couple of days have i noticed a slight leak from my breasts?? Has this happened to anyone else??? Yes it has happened to me. Mine is a lot more strange than your current situation. I had my first child 10 yrs ago, my middle 7 yrs ago and my youngest 4 yrs ago. I have never stopped completely lactating. Also with this you might notice soreness around your cycle.

That depends. How much are you nursing when you quit. 6 times a day and good supply it could take awhile and you may have pain and engorgment. If you are only nursing once or twice a day and very little you may have no fullness or leaking. You may lose your milk in a matter of days in a time of great stress or if you take certain medications. Or you may keep your milk for some time due to hormones. I nursed my first son till he was 1 and had not completely lost my milk when I got pregnant with my second child when he was 20 months old. It was not the same as when I was nursing. It was thicker and I had to squeeze my nipple to get it to come out. Sometimes it would also come out during sex if my husband pinched or sucked my nipples. The milk also changed consistancy when I got pregnant with the second child it became more liquid and clear during the early stages and then thickened as the pregnancy went on. The same happened between the second and third child with the same age spacing. The third child was only nursed for 9 months because I had to take a non-approved antibiotic for a bladder infection and it dried my milk up in about 1 month. It did not disappear completely but was not enough for the baby so I stopped nursing. I still had milk if I pinched my nipples for about a year after. I am one of 5 freinds that nursed their children. I kept my milk the longest of all my freind so I would assume that most people would loss their milk sooner.

It should pretty much stop in a few weeks. But you may continue to produce small amounts of milk for a few years. There are pills you can get from your doctor to make it stop sooner.

Not long after nursing stops; if you develop lumps you may need to manually express. If you get an infection, see a doctor ASAP.
