It will start back up within a few months. It is possible to ovulate during this time so be careful.

Don't rely on breastfeeding as a source of birth control... I started back up at 6 weeks postpartum, and I'm breastfeeding my son. The average time, I think, is about 6 months postpartum, but then there are people like me who ovulated 4 weeks after giving birth! (Note: I've known people who didn't start up for a year of two after giving birth.)
