The Senate elects in a staggered cycle to avoid a complete turnover. Some districts elect for a two year term, then a four year term followed by a second four year term. This 2-4-4 cyle is used in one third of the districts, one third use a 4-2-4 cycle and one third use 4-4-2. There are no term limits.
