For a few years if in an air tight container.

That will depend upon the type of meat. Fatty meats will go rancid in the freezer. So something like bacon or sausage will be good only for a month or two. Pork doesn't last as long as beef. Definitely plan to use frozen meat before a year is up, but sooner is better. See Related Links.

According to the USDA, food that is stored at a consistent temp of 0 degrees Fahrenheit will "always be safe to eat". The fats in frozen meat will eventually turn rancid. Depending upon the meat, its packaging and the storage temperature, it could happen within a few weeks or after a couple years.

Meats freeze and keep well in the freezer. You can store them over a year if kept frozen. Freezing is the best way to preserve most foods.
