There are several easy ways to do drain an above ground pool like a Doughboy:

1. Siphon: Take a garden hose and throw about half of it into the pool. Hang the other half over the side of the pool and place the end where you want the water to drain.

Use your mouth and suck on the "dry" end until water from the pool flows out. It should maintain a slow steady stream until the water level is down to a few inches in depth.

You can also use a larger hose (like the one you might have for vacuuming the pool); the water will drain faster but you won't be able to get the water level as low as a smaller hose.

2. Small Pump: There are small electric pumps that fit garden hoses available for $20-$30 at most home centers. These types of pumps will lower the water down down to an inch or so.

3. Pool Pump: Use your pool pump. Connect a length of pool vacuum hose to the intake side of your pump and connect a second hose to the output side of the pump. Turn on your pool pump and let 'er rip. Remember you may have plug the skimmer/sidewall holes or lower the pool level 6"-12" inches via siphoning first to allow you to disconnect the intake and output lines of the pump to the pool.

I didn't like Tom Stones answer as it would require that you have the ability to suck the chrome off a bumper hitch. If it was me I would fill garden hose before I threw half of it in the pool. Try it Tom --- it will work a lot faster. Harry

** Harry. LOL. I, in turn, don't like the #3 answer. It could be detramental to the regular pool pump. If you are pressed for time, rent a professional type sump pump. You can buy either a hose that is used for this purpose - at a pool store - called a discharge hose - blue in color and comes in 2" or 1.5". Or you can use a vac hose or couple 2 or 3 vac hoses together to reach to your terminal point. It will pump out a good sized pool pretty much over nite. k

Hmmm, you should only drain a small portion of the water unless you are going to replace the liner. The liner and/or the pool walls could collapse or the liner could pop out of the retaining track. k

I fill my above the ground pool twice a week and run the garden hose for about

a hour each time. I live in a hot climate and the water tends to evaporate pretty quickly.

Is it possible to put an above ground Doughboy pool in the ground?

Doughboy has recently come out with an 52" above ground pool that can be buried 46" and carries a full warranty. If you bury the pool more than 46 inches, the warranty is void. I purchased one and planned to have it buried but when the pool installer started digging he ran into a problem with rock. Now we are stuck with either covering up the hole and not having a pool or having it above ground. Not exactly what I wanted but it will make the hot summer days more bearable.

Can you change a above ground pool center drain with water in it?

Where is the drain located? If it is on the wall near the top then you can keep the water in the pool. If it is near the bottom then you may have to drain the pool.

Where can you find diagrams or helpful tips on installing a Doughboy 10x18 above ground pool and doing the plumbing yourself?

Hello: I did not know Doughboy was still selling pools, I thought they went out of business years ago. In any event, Use the same building process to build your Doughboy that would be used for any other above ground pool. Same is true for the plumbing. Doughboy still is the master of above-ground pools. You can download any instructions from their website http://www.doughboy-pools.com/ they're not easy, but with a little help from your friends you can have one hell of a party with the money you saved.

Can you drain a pool during the winter months to replace the vinyl liner in the spring without damaging the pool shell in Mississippi?

If your pool is above ground it does not matter, But if your pool is in ground and you drain it it will act like a boat and float if the water table rises.

Why does the ground have to be level for above ground pools?

So that the water doesn't drain out of the pool and so the pool doesn't fall over. I agree with the answer above but I have a more detailed answer. In a round above ground pool the water puts even pressure on the pool walls, and if the ground is not level one side will get more pressure. The imbalance will cause the pool to collapse under the strain.

Do you have to open a in ground pool every year?

No , above ground pools are different in that you can drain them , the reason you cannot drain an in ground pool is because the pool is built to have water pressure , and it is very stressful on the walls , I hope this answered your question :) .
