I'm pretty sure they can breathe for several hours underwater or at least mine does.

Indefinitely. Turtles are true amphibians. They come to land to lay eggs and to sun themselves

Answer:

Turtles do not breathe underwater (no gills) they have to surface periodically to take a breath. Underwater they hold their breath. As reptiles their metabolism is slow enough to stretch out a lungfull of oxygen for several minutes.
