If you are sectioned, i believe that you must stay a minimum of 28 days.
Another View: If you are committed by court order it can be for as long as the court's order states. If you are committed involuntarily (by emergency commitment order), it will usually be for no more than 72 hours observation before the institution will have to render their evaluation of your danger to yourself and/or others.
