Whole, fresh strawberries do not need to be placed in the fridge, but they will keep longer if they are. Washed and sliced strawberries should be refrigerated.

As long as they haven't been washed or sliced, you could leave strawberries out until they start to rot and mold. But for nutritional value and eating quality, they should be refrigerated.
