How long did Noah warn the people about the flood?

Noah did not preach, he was to busy building the ark.

There is no scripture that actually says that Noah preached any kind of warning to people as he was building the ark. His righteous lifestyle would have been a testament to the people, but when he was told to build the ark he was also told that his family was going to be the only one to be saved.

The previous answer claimed he preached to them and warned them for 120 years. This is incorrect either was as even if he did warn them (which The Bible never says he did) he was told to build the ark when he was 500 and the flood came when he was 600. Obviously that means he would have only been warning them about the flood for 100 at the most.

It can only be ascertained that Noah had sons when God gave him the commission to build the Ark.

Ge 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

The sons had wives so they must be older than 20 or so and also it'd be hard on Noah to build an Ark by himself with just boys.

Noah had sons when he was 500 years old.

Ge 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Did he have them all at once? I don't know but the Bible gives us the age of Shem when the flood came.

Ge 11:10 ¶ These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

So Shem is 98 or so when the Flood came.

Realistically, Shem would be at least 20 before he got his wife so then this puts it in the 70 year range.

As far as what did he preach? Yes, he did preach righteousness ...

2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

... but what is righteousness? Its hard to accept that he did not forewarn of the Flood as we today who preach forewarn about the coming Tribulation to come. It sort of gets people's attention when they hear of what's to come and the dire straights that they will be put in if they don't accept Jesus as their Saviour now. But, as today, Noah probably didn't get the response he was hoping for. Instead he got mocking but aside from all that he might have turned some away from what they were doing. The Bible doesn't say and contrary to popular preaching anyone who did repent could not get on the Ark - they simply were not invited because of the corruption of their flesh.

God was sending the Flood to get rid of the corruption of the flesh that men had done where only Noah was said to be pure in his generations.

So what did Noah preach? Probably the same thing that preachers always preach (real ones you understand). The necessity of a righteous stand before God, judgment to come and the vanity of life.

2 Peter 2:5 calls Noah "a preacher of righteousness..."(NIS).

Many feel that during the approximately 50 years it took Noah to build the ark, he was preaching to people around him.

Some interpreted this verse to mean Noah had 120 years to warn the people. It goes to the 'longsuffering' or patience God shows mankind (2 Peter 3:9):

In biblical numerology, the number 12 and in this case intensified by 10, represents 'new organizational beginnings' which after the Flood event, it certainly was.
