The actors in Shakespeare's day were not given the whole script, only a copy of the lines they themselves were supposed to memorize and their cues. This was to prevent people from stealing the scripts. They had a very short window to memorize their lines, and learned them with a speed that amazes even professional actors nowadays.

A very short time. In Henslowe's records of the performances of the Lord Admiral's Men, they sometimes had only a week between premieres of totally new plays. In 1596 they premiered plays on December 4, 11 and 19, while performing usually six days a week and a different play every day.
