About 30 to 45 days. After that the mother keeps pushing the kittens away when they want to drink her milk and everyone starts to get independent.

It really depends on the environment. If a mother is allowed to keep her kittens with her for the recommended 12 weeks, she will continue to feed them the entire time, and even beyond. The mother cat we have has been feeding her six kittens for 15 weeks.

A cat cares for its young by feeding them by the breasts. When the kittens are born she breaks the sac, eats the sac, and breaks the umbilical cord. Then the mother cleans it right after its birth and cleans the kittens as often as she can.
