Shellfish are technically alive, and should be kept on ice. They are also foolproof when you cook them in that the dead ones will close tight and the good ones open up, so you just throw away the ones that stay closed during cooking.

You can also check right before cooking as the live ones should be a little open, but will close if you tap lightly on the shell.

All that being said, I wouldn't keep them in the fridge more than a day or two. If you don't think you'll eat them that quick, then freeze them.

Foods that are left out in room temperature for more than an hour can begin bacteria growth. Our stomach acids can kill some of these bacterias but not all and some can make you very sick. Keep foods OUT of the danger zone- Above 45 degrees and Below 145 degrees. Between these temperatures bacteria lives and breeds on our foods.

All cold seafood should be served chilled and kept chilled. If it reaches room temperature for more than 1 hour, it should be discarded. Cooked seafood can be kept somewhat longer, because the cooking should have killed any bacteria. For safety's sake, however, two hours out of the pan should be about the limit.

one day at the most. They begin to die. Better eaten straight away. If you cannot eat them give to your neighbour before they turn. If the room is warm, they really don't last long. They will either stink and become very potent for you.

Approximately 5-7 years. I believe that this answer is meant to be funny. Live clams after being kept in any refrigerator about one week will die and begin to stink.l You certainly would not want to eat them when they are stinking and rotting. Even with refrigeration dead clams will deteriorate from enzymes within the clam.

This food does not keep well. It will only last 2 or 3 days in the refrigerator. Freeze this food for longer storage time.
