I was on Xanax for my extreme anxiety problems, my doctor told me only to take it when I desperately HAD to...But I felt like that was ALL of the time, So I began to break my pills in half, in quarters as I started popping them every hour...
I knew they could be addictive but I didn't know how STRONGLY...
I was out of control, I just wanted to sleep and feel my Xanax high...
But when I didn't want to take a pill, I would start to shake and have these "flutterings" in my chest and twitches in my neck...
So I just HAD to keep on taking it...But one day I thought I had a positive preg test, so I quit cold turkey...I was up for 4 DAYS STRAIGHT...
I was shaking, started to "see things"(which I still do, 6 months later) such as Spiders, people, and scary images...)...YOU HAVE TO WEAN yourself off of this drug the best you can...taper off gradually...Withdrawal from this drug can be dangerous causing seizures, etc...
Withdrawal can vary from person to person because of the many different doses you can take...Every 6 hours the body withdraws from Xanax, it is a short-acting drug which makes it more addicting...
Very FEW people can kick the drug by themselves...The only reason I was able to, is because my boyfriend is a doctor and he guided me through it and made me feel safe.
You can die from Xanax withdrawal. A slow taper with a long acting Benzodiazepine like Valium can prevent that.

how long does xanax withdrawal last?
Improved Answer:
Short Term (Dangerous) 10-14 days (seizures, etc).
Protracted (Long Term) a year.
Best to switch to long acting Benzodiazepine like Valium, start at relatively comparative dose and decrease slowly over several months.
heroin withdrawals last about 5-10 days depending on how long you have been using. And xanax withdrawals can last up to 14 days depending on the amount and frequency of use. But when both withdrawal symptoms are combined together it makes for hell on earth. You should never quit these drugs simultaneously, quit one first and then quit the other a week or so later. I think personally it is easier to quit the opiates first before the benzos. Good luck and if you have any questions about withdrawals then email me at jasondavidrice@wikianswers.com and I will be happy to help you through it , casue I have been down that road too many times and know how difficult it can be. Good luck!
I have been on Xanax for years. I stopped taking xanax for a drug study, and the only side effect i had was high blood pressure. The one thing I always do with almost any kind of drug i've been on for a long period of time, is taper my way down. Going from say 1 mg to .5 for a week, then 1/2 tab of the .5's for another week, then maybe 1/2 every couple of days, then i stop completely. I have occasionally taken then when needed...meaning if i have symptoms of anxiety or panic attacks. I've never really had a problem with them. It's hard for me to understand why the doctors are so skeptical to give them out. Must be different reactions for different people?
No. Alprazolam (Xanax) is very safe and cocaine is extremely dangerous drug.

4 to 6 hours tops bro.
A couple of weeks. After the first week the second one isn't that bad (from the vic) I dont know about the xanax.
Years, I've had withdrawals for over 2 years. Addendum I still get them, its been 10 years since i last took one.
They are going to be rough for the first 4-5 days and will get easier after that. It will be a lot mental . Good luck!
Well. i just mixed 1.5mg of xanax and took a stacker 3. I'll let you know what happens!
Withdrawals of Prozac may start within eight hours of stopping the medication. Withdrawal symptoms may last for six to eight weeks.
Nope. If a person is dependent upon Benzodiazapines (sp?) such as xanax and is suddenly forced to stop taking them, the withdrawals can be just as dangerous, if not worse, than alcohol withdrawals. Serious cases usually require hospitalization.
Yes. You'd be safe within 4-6 hours, xanax doesn't last long. It would even be safe with the xanax if you were only having 2-3 drinks.
how long for xanax if only taken 3mg in one year
Klonopin, with out a doubt!
