Yes Koi can live in fish tanks and will do just fine as long as it is has a fish tank larger than 60 gallons or 240 liters. It is actually best for them to live in tanks that are 75+ Gallons. This is why people generally buy them for there ponds. These fish have a lifespan of about 60 years so you can start them off in a smaller tank and buy a bigger one in the future. It may however just be better to start off with a large aquarium so you don't spend a bunch of money buying bigger and bigger aquariums until you have a 75 gallon.

∙ 14y agoKoi Carp are a domestic variety of fish that were developed in Japan. They were bred to grow quite large (around 24 inches or so) and have colourful broad backs for viewing from above. So they are specifically pond fish.

∙ 13y agoWell, depends. First of all koi fish are meant to be in a pond, so that would be the ultimate place for them. If you do keep them in an aquarium I would make sure there is lots of room and keep other kinds of fish to a minimum. If you are housing them for the winter they will be fine as long as they are not crowded.
