Not too long. A couple of weeks. My Doc prescribed that stuff for me because of heart palpitations "brought on by panic attacks". The fact that my heart would skip beats is what MADE me panic!!! Anyhow, I know how you feel. I called it, 'The Fuzzies". Like an odd electric shock from my tongue to my legs every 15 minutes or so. Stay cool, you'll be alright. I was worried it wouldn't stop but it did! Take care and be safe. Dan I must disagree with the above. While it depends on the amount you are taking, they last several weeks and are extremely serious. You were very lucky if all you got was a fuzzy feeling and leg disconfort for 15 minutes. Statistically, 78% of those who take the medication and try to come off go through a lot of mental and physical pain. I am one of those. L.

I AM NOT A DOCTOR, SO KEEP THAT IN MIND. However, I just read another "answer" about withdrawing from Effexor and felt really badly about what was posted. I do not think that taking other drugs to mute the effects of quitting Effexor sounds like a good idea whatsoever. Replacing one drug with another seems very dangerous--besides the possible bonuses of using another drug, many drugs (anti-anxiety meds, pot, alcohol) can get you addicted to them. Finally, going cold turkey off anything you're addicted to is not only severely unpleasant, but also severely dangerous. Effexor withdrawals are a horrible pain, can be not only physically unpleasant, but also effect one's temper and emotions. . . However, having gone through this process myself, I'd like to add that, after safely following my doctor's advice regarding tapering, I am now off Effexor completely and every day gets better. Afternoon's are still a little rough with some nausea, but the time that that lasts gets smaller and smaller every day, along with the dizziness. Bottom line to this little rant: USE YOUR PSYCHIATRIST. THAT IS WHAT HE OR SHE IS FOR, AND IT WILL KEEP YOU OUT OF DANGER.

Depending on your dosing, within roughly 24-36 hours of your last dose. Note that Effexor should hot be stopped "cold turkey", but instead should be tapered off. As the prescribing doctor for a safe way to do this.

If your taking Effexor 75 mg and want to switch to zoloft what do I need to do to make the switch?

You need to talk to your doctor who will probably say to taper down your Effexor. You may be able to take Zoloft at the same time since you are on a lower dosage of the Effexor already.Eventually you will be Effexor free and hopefully you won't have to go through Effexor withdrawl like most people.

Can Effexor cause ringing in ears?

I am in the process of weaning off of lexapro 20mg. I have had a multitude of horrible symptoms and ringing in the ears is one of the symptoms. I am familiar with withdrawl symptoms from several anti-depressants because of trial and error with my doctor. Hang in there. It takes a while sometimes, but these things do improve or go away completely.

What does sugar fix mean?

A "fix" is a dose of a drug to which you are addicted which one takes to stave off withdrawl symptoms. People who eat a lot of sugar can show symptoms of withdrawl if they are without it, and would need a "sugar fix" to avoid the withdrawl symptoms. Diabetics can also require a dose of sugar to quickly raise their blood sugar level if it is low.But of course, people can talk about needing something as if they were addicted to it when they really aren't. In such a case, the "fix" is just something the person is craving.
