In the US you cannot become legally an architect by just going to college. You need to pass licensing exams in order to be considered an architect, to offer and advertise services and to practice architecture independently.

Most architects go on for a master's degree or higher. In addition to the educational requirement, there will be a licensing requirement from the state in order to work independently.
