The issue is not the length of time that a child resides in a household but if the adult(s) of that household have been granted legal custody of said child, whether by being the custodial parent or legal guardian(s).

∙ 14y agoThe age of majority for California is 18 in some cases that is when child support ceases due to the fact that the individual is now a legal adult. However, the terms of the child support order dictate how long a parent's financial obligation last, some support orders stipulate that both parents are obligated to support their child to an age that surpasses that of a "legal adult" and/ or includes specific "higher education" terms. FYI, if a child is deemed mentally or physically challenged financial support often becomes a complicated issue.
