I work in anaesthesia and usually it's about 12 hours or so most patients come in having a meal at the night prior to the operation and drinking just water is usually fine just a few hours before the operation, this is just to prevent reflux going into the trachea and doing damage to your lungs.

As a general rule, you should not eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery. Under some circumstances, you may be given permission by your anesthesiologist to drink clear liquids up to a few hours before your anesthesia.

Eating or drinking too soon before anesthesia can also result in severe nausea and/or vomiting, which not only is unpleasant, but can also result in serious complications if vomiting occurs while still under anesthesia.

I would say 3-7 days depending on what it is. If its wine 3 or 4 should be fine but if its like hard liquor, 5 to 7 days just to be safe. If you do it same day it might rip or disolve stiches early. But, just to be sure contact the person who performed the surgery or your primary dentist.

When can you drink coffee after wisdom tooth extraction?

After wisdom tooth extraction, it's generally recommended to wait at least 24 hours before drinking coffee or any other hot beverages. Drinking hot liquids too soon after the extraction can dislodge the blood clot that forms in the socket, which is essential for proper healing. This can lead to a condition called dry socket, which can be painful and delay the healing process. Once you're past the initial 24-hour period, you can start introducing lukewarm liquids, including coffee, into your diet. However, it's important to continue to be cautious. Drinking through a straw or rinsing your mouth vigorously should be avoided, as these actions can also disrupt the healing process. If you experience any pain, swelling, or bleeding after drinking coffee or any other beverage, stop and consult your dentist or oral surgeon. They can provide further guidance on when it's safe to resume drinking coffee and other hot beverages after wisdom tooth extraction.

Can you use alcohol free mouthwash instead of salt water to rinse mouth after tooth extraction?

Following a tooth extraction, it is recommended that you cleanse your mouth with a mild saline solution as opposed to a chemical mouthwash, with or without alcohol. The salt water will not irritate the open lesion from the extraction like a chemical cocktail would.

Drinking alcohol after a tooth extraction?

Drinking alcohol tends to thin the blood temporarily which might result in the socket bleeding. If you are taking pain killers this would also be a contraindication to drinking alcohol. It depends how long it has been since the tooth was extracted but when I had one extracted I had instructions for aftercare to follow for three days so this could be a good guideline for you.

What aftercare is prescribed following a tooth extraction?

Once the clot is formed, it should not be disturbed. The patient should not rinse, spit, drink with a straw, or smoke for at least 24 hours
