I was told 4 weeks, but I think as long as the scabbing is gone it should be alright. I got in my hot tub 2 1/2 weeks after and all is well. FROM AN ARTIST... water is a natural healer and you should NEVER get into water before your tattoo is healed. It will cause your piece to heal faster than it should. Wait until it is healed and it has sunk into your skin before you get into water.

Tattoos should be allowed to heal for a minimum of 2 weeks - until all flaking and peeling is finished and all scabs have fallen off. Even then, you're taking a risk getting in a chemically treated pool or bacteria-infested pond or lake, especially if you stay for an extended period of time. A tattoo is not considered fully healed until a new layer of protective skin has grown over it - this process usually takes about 3 months. Until then, your tattoo is most vulnerable to all elements - bacteria, sun, chemicals, pollution, etc. This is why getting a tattoo during the summer is not recommended, especially for swimmers and beach bunnies! If you've already got the tattoo, all I can really recommend now is stay out of the pool for at least 2 weeks and then keep your swimming to a minimum if you absolutely must go, and make sure you clean your tattoo thorougly after getting out of the water.

Great question..I got a tattoo about a month ago, and this was an issue. Depending on who you go to, you'll get different answers. I've heard everything from ten days to three weeks. It also depends on how big your tattoo is, and how long your body takes to heal. The complete healing process takes on average, fourteen days. If you go in while your tattoo is still in scab stage, though, the scab softens up in the water and may come off, taking your tattoo with it. :( Chlorine and other chemicals in the pool may fade your tattoo as well if you swim too soon. I started swimming again on my tenth day, and so far my tattoo is in great shape. No blurring or fading at all. Granted, mine is only 2x2". If you absolutely must be in the water before fourteen days is up, I suggest using a waterproof bandage, or applying some vaseline over your tattoo before getting in the pool, and try to keep water time fairly short. If you have any further questions, ask your tattoo artist--he or she knows best! Good luck! :]

After getting a new tattoo you should wait until the major healing has completed 1st steps of healing are scabbing, Peeling, Itching, Then it turns shiny then it will dull a bit and it is healed. You should wait approx 3 Weeks before swimming in saltwater or chlorinated water or even to suntan as these will all fade a new tattoo, And with the money you spend on them you don't want to screw em up.

While it would most likely be harmless to other pool-goers I would highly recommend not entering a pool until after your tattoo has completely healed. Sumberging the tatto before it has fully healed can cause rapid fading, scarring and infections that would permanently affect how the tattoo looks. Pool water, or any water with high levels of chemicals like chlorine, intenisify the effects of the fading and scarring.

At my shop we tell our clients that they should stay out of direct sunlight, chlorinated pools and lakes or streams for 3 weeks...While ocean water may be beneficial to healing the suns rays are magnified about three times while you are in the water....Hope this helps...

Uh, no. Wait until it’s fully healed. Chlorine is bleach, get in the pool if you hate your tattoo and want it to be faded and washed out.

Its not recommended but if you do, then use plenty of factor 50+ suncream even if you are in a swimming pool. This prevents the tattoo fading and the ink 'dying' on the surface of the skin.

Well it depends on what you consider small? You can probably get a "small" tattoo for $60-75. More if you wanted color. Go and educate yourself first before getting a tattoo. Walk into a parlor and get an education.
