A third group took the same dose of aspirin at night (82 people). All patients wore devices that monitored their blood pressure around the clock. Blood pressure readings were automatically recorded every 20 minutes during the day and every half hour at night.Study's ResultsAfter three months, these were the results:Aspirin at night: Significant drop in blood pressureAspirin in the morning: Slightly higher blood pressureNo aspirin: Slightly lower blood pressureThe biggest blood pressure change was in the patients who took aspirin at night, the study shows. How much did their blood pressure drop?Systolic blood pressure (the top number): down 6.8Diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number): down 1.6For more information visit the Related Link.

Does excedrin thin your blood?

Yes - Excedrin has aspirin and aspirin is natural blood thiner. This is caused by Asprin making your platelets not stick to each other, and in doing so can cause the blood to ooze longer than normal. The effects of aspirin in your blood will last 7-10 days.. your body will naturally replace all platelets in this time. This is a main reason why if you are scheduled for a surgery they will tell you not to take aspirin 10 days prior to your surgery date

Does drinking a hot coke and taking two aspirin kill a fetus?

Acetominophen (Tylenol) is usually the recommended pain/fever reliever in pregnant women. Esp. in the third trimester, taking aspirin can cause problems with blood clotting, and women can "bleed out" during childbirth. Pregnant women often take acetylsalicylic acid, for example to relieve headache. This sometimes happens before the pregnancy has even been detected. There is no cause for concern in either of these cases. Clinical studies have shown that when used correctly (i.e. on occasion and at the standard, prescription-free dose), acetylsalicylic acid is safe for both mother and child. In the last trimester of pregnancy however, acetylsalicylic acid should not be taken by pregnant women due to the risk of a contraction-inhibiting effect.

How long is aspirin effective in your body?

Most people these days take aspirin due to it's antiplatelet aggregation effects, and not as a pain reliever for something like a headache. For that reason it is commonly referred to as a "blood thinner", but this is a misnomer. Aspirin works to make platelets more "slippery" and less able to bind to other platelets or to sites of injured endothelial tissue by permanently binding to cyclooxgenase (COX) molecules on the surface of platelets thereby preventing the formation of thromboxane A2 (TXA2). Thus aspirin acts by inhibiting the ability of the COX enzyme to produce the precursors of thromboxane within platelets. This maintains the platelet in an inactive state and prevents platelet aggregation and coagulation for the life of the platelet. The elimination half life of aspirin (salicylic acid) in a healthy individual is approximately 6 hours. But since the normal lifespan of a platelet is 8 to 10 days, the effects of aspirin can be seen for more than 8 days, or until all the aspirin inactivated platelets are replaced in your circulatory system. Many medical practitioners consider the antiplatelet aggregation action of aspirin to still be effective 5 days after the last dose of aspirin was taken. I hope everyone finds this helpful.

Atrial septal aneurysm?

The top two chambers of the heart are called the atria. Between these two chambers is a wall called the septum. When a baby is born this is the last part of the heart to form and can have a small hole in it for a while. You may have heard, "the baby has a hole in its heart." This usually heals up over time.In the case of atrial septum aneurysm the blood flow out of the heart is a little weaker but can be dealt with. The part for concern is if there begins to be pooling in the atrium. Any blood throughout the body that slows down will become thicker and possible have clots. The thing you do for this is take a blood thinner. Some doctors have their patients take low-dose aspirin others, especially if you've had a stroke before, take coumadin. With proper supervision of a doctor I've heard that it doesn't shorten life if you keep up with the thinner blood.

Can one take the medicine Fioricet before surgery?

Ibuprofen is a blood thinner, just like aspirin and ideally should be avoided 2 weeks prior to surgery. Acetominophen (Tylenol) does not have that effect and can be taken instead. Incorrect. After taking ibuprofen, unlike aspirin, blood platelet function returns to normal in about 24 hours. Ibuprofen should be discontinued at least 24 hours before surgery. I am a physician, and I have discovered that many surgeons are unaware of the difference between aspirin and ibuprofen with regard to platelet function.

WHAT will happen if taken aspirin during pregnancy?

Aspirin, like many other NSAIDs is a prostaglandin inhibitor (blocker) and therefore should not be used in the last tremester (6-9 months) of pregnancy. Prostaglindins help in redirecting the baby's blood flow into his/her lungs just before the birthing process (almost at the 2nd to 3rd stage of labour). Aspirin could prevent that vital and essential redirecting of blood flow into the baby's lungs and instead the blood might be routed to the uterus through the palcenta. Abruptio Placenta, is a very serious and potentially fatal condition to both the mother and baby, may occur if excessive use of Aspirin or other NSAIDs are used during the second and third tremester. Aspirin's use in warrented only in low doses and in early pregnancy, for very few reasons like recurrent miscarriages etc., and strictly under a your treating Ob & Gynae physician's directive and supervision. - MN
