This depends on the type of beer, alcohol content, and on the conditions in which the beer is stored. Many beers; usually imperial stouts, American strong ales, and other "big" beers are better when they have a year or two worth of aging on them. You also want to make sure these beers are stored at an even constant temperature, typically between 50 -60 degrees F. That being said, most beers are best when consumed fresh.

I just inherited beer from 2002, some of it was Sam Adams, some Budlight, and some MGD. I just had a sam Adams and it was fine. I think it helped that all these years this beer was just sitting in the fridge. I know beer gets bad when it is sitting in sunlight or if it goes through multiple heating and cooling cycles. Hopefully th eother taste just as good!

Most beers have either a drink by date, or a bottled date. In general, beer will last up to 4 months from the bottled date so it will be easy to calculate its expiration date.

If you mean how long will it take before the drink goes off, the best before date is usually found on the base of the can.
