I had my tooth taken out 3 weeks ago now and mine still hasn't healed. Yes i smoked when i first had my tooth taken out. You don't think it's going to happen to you but it did. plus my tooth had 3 roots which my dentist said was vary rare which caused the hole where my tooth was to be extremely deep, this wouldn't of helped eather. Ive had problem after problem with my tooth extraction. I went and had it packed 4 days after extraction for been in too much pain and been on two courses of antibiotic's i also had to come home from my two week holiday abroad a week early due to me been in so much pain i barley left the apartment I went back to my dentist late end of last week who basically said there was nothing she could do. The next day i woke up and the dressing had come out. even more bad luck! So 3 weeks on the pain is still there from time to time but doesn't hurt always. the hole is still very visable and there is no sign it is even beginning to heal!. All those who have had dry sockets i really do feel for you. Worst pain Ive been in in my life.

If you have medicine for dry socket in your mouth can you smoke a cigarette?

It's definitely not smart to smoke a cigarette with dry socket. As the socket tries to heal and reclot, smoking can prolong the healing process even more. Many dry sockets are believed to be caused by smoking initially, so just quit for a while and let it heal.

How soon can you eat after having a dry socket treatment?

Eating after treatment of a dry socket when a tooth was pulled, is usually a matter of comfort. Try not to eat anything like nuts, that will lodge in the socket. You may want to stick to liquids or puddings for a day, to allow the dry socket time to heal, and so you won't be biting on a painful surface.

What is a natural remedy for dry socket?

There's not much you can do at home to remedy a dry socket. Dentists and oral surgeons need to repack the socket with a medicated dressing that helps with the pain and infection, but it doesn't speed up the healing process much. They need to heal on their own. So see your dentist if you have a dry socket or suspect one due to extreme pain.... if you must wait, rinse your mouth gently with salt water to keep the area clean and try not to focus on the pain.

How can you help dry socket at home?

Dry socket can heal on its own, but there are many negative impacts it may have: It takes much longer, the pain persists, it could become even more infected, it is likely that it will not heal properly. Going to the doctor is the best thing to do because they know what they are doing and they can disinfect it and make sure it will heal the way it is supposed to.
