There shouldn't be a hurry. If you lose weight quickly just by skipping meals, in the long run you will actually gain weight.
At 12, you should have plenty of exercise (walk to and from school rather than take the bus... or if you live a good bit away from school, simply get an earlier bus and get off at the stop before school).
And have a healthy diet... eating between meals is not possible if you want to lose weight. Don't skip breakfast, have a light lunch, and don't eat after 7pm. Drink plenty of water, and don't eat fried food or large portions.

well if you want to loose weight at such a young age all you have to do is not eat as much as you usually would and play sports but you dont even have to play sports just get out and run and play with your friends

A 12 year old should not diet to lose weight, only increase physical activity, unless under strict medical supervision. This is the age where bone density and other physical devolpments are taking place, and a a poor diet or minimal intake of nutrients could cause long lasting effects that will carry through to adulthood. Wait until you have stopped developing to go on a diet- like around 18 years old.

I have a 12 year old that has put on at least 40 lbs. She is under supervision of her doctor. She has to loose this weight or remain sick. It is hard to find nice clothes to fit her. She wants to stay in style, but it is hard find clothes for a healthy child. I need some advice and some tips. we have tried exercise, but she stopped. We have cut back on favorite foods, but she still snacks. She will not eat fresh veggies and fruit. Help.

Pre-teens should stop worrying about how they look and enjoy life!! You only live once! Unless you are unhealthy, then stop fustrating and smell the flowers. Everyone these days is hassling over their weight when they should be hassling about their families.PLEASE GIRLS EAT UP!!! (I realize you can't enjoy life if you are being teased or feel too different. Talking to your doctor or a nutrition specialist can give you good tips.

I like the EAT UP response because it's true. I hate how people constantly whine about there 5-20 vanity pounds and should just live life and eat their favorite foods. MMM Yummy. And don't spend time exorcising if you don't want to. Their are other things that are more fun. I agree that if you are obese you could run into problems, so that is crucial to keep your weight down to the overweight level(or less). I, as a "liberal wenee", suggest liposuction or gastric bypass if you are severly overheight.

I am the mother of a 12 year old boy myself. He also wants to lose weight. I read your post on some answer/question site about trying to lose weight and wondering how.
Swimming and running are the quickest ways. If you are really over weight then running can be painful on your knees. Swimming works and has no hard impact on your body. You have to swim laps thought, back and fourth until you are really out of breath and sweating. Usually about 15 minutes, then take a 5 min break and another 15 min. Drink water on the break, being in the pool doesn't help you if you get dehydrated.
My next thought is the water. Stop drinking all other drinks for a while. Stop soda permanantly if you can. I knew a woman who drank pepsi all the time and she was very over weight. She stopped drinking soda but changed nothing else and in 2 months, she had lost 30 pounds. I don't know what that equals in metric. Imagine if she had exorsized too and improved her diet.
Drinking alot of water and stoping sugar in take helps sooo much. When your body is dehydrated, it begins to store water every time you do drink. It holds the water in your body and makes you look fatter. The more water you drink, the less your body will store it. Water also helps your body flush out fat.
Any thing you can do that gets your heartrate up and makes you sweat means you are burning calories. Try not to eat fried food, and cookies and baked goods or pastries. Donuts are the worse for you. It is just fat fried in fat which causes you to become more fat,,
The think about sugar is that when you try to cut down on it, you crave it alot.Sugar is an addiciton. Your body will only crave it for a little while especially if you are drinking alot of water.
When you get through school you realize that in the real world being overweight doesn't matter as much. But since you have several years ahead of you, it is understandable that you are frustraited and even embarassed. My son has developed small breast tissue and he is very embarassed about that. Kids tease him and everything. We have just started all that I suggested above and his weight is improving.
Don't skip meals, but don't eat seconds either. Chew your food for a long time and eat slowly (eating while watching tv is not good for you) If you are really hungry and think you want seconds... try to wait 10 full minutes first to let your food tell your body that your full. If you just stuff more food down before your body realizes how much you have already eaten you end up feeling too full. Then you don't want to do anything but lay down and that is terrible for you.
Other good things are not to eat within two hours of bed time. And always get up and moving after eating, not just siting around letting everything go to fat.

if you are over weight or think you are alls you have to do is eat healthier foods and dont eat as big of portions if you go without eating then you just gain back weight because when you dont eat for awhile then you eat it makes you gain alot of weight. so if you think you need to lose weight do it the healthy way by exercising and eating real healthy foods

listen all you girls out there i am girl just like you guys and i used to think i was over weight because of my dad but then i learned that its my body and i shoudn't have to do what he thinks to improve my body. Because he said that to me i am now anirexcic and in a hospital so pleace live life and live it. All peoples bodys come in different shapes and sizes and they are all beautiful.

i think you should try and eat more healthy things and get at least 20 mins of excercise each day. Drink plenty of water and milk, and try to follow the food guide. stay away from chips, pop, candy and any other junky stuff like that. and please remember, dont skip meals because that will make it worse, and you will regret it, trust me. each day check the weigh scale to see how much you have lost or gained, if you have lost over 20 pounds, your done. and if you gain more, see your local doctor. remember treat you body like a precious jewel!
