== Answer == It depends on the band. I've heard of some bands taking up to three years to write the songs and then spending another five months in the studio to record and produce it.
The shortest I have ever heard of a professional album being made in was in 8 days. The pop punk band Stellar Kart wrote all of their songs AND recorded it in just those 8 days! Their website says so.
For an unprofessional CD done by a local band, an album can be recorded in just one day or less in a local music studio (with songs that the band previously wrote). It's done fast and relatively cheap, but the production quality is low in this case.
