It depends. The only real difference between orally ingesting cannabis and smoking the herb is that marijuana enters your body much quicker and is has a much more potent effect than if you just eat weed, but marijuana is only detectable in your blood stream for up to a few hours after first entering it. Many factors contribute to how long marijuana will stay in your body. For instance; if you have a faster metabolism than your friend and you both smoke the same amount of weed at the same time, chances are you will have naturally been completely detoxed before your friend. Other factors include your weight, your diet, how much marijuana you smoke/eat, and how much you exercise. If you are worried about passing a drug test there are many ways to quickly purge your system. THC (the main chemical in marijuana) is fat soluble, meaning it sticks to your fat cells and eventually breaks down over time. Drinking lots of water helps to naturally detox your system by breaking down the THC in your system and flushing it out. Another more popular way is to buy detox products. You can pick these up anywhere (CVS, GNC, any local head shop), although they can be quite expensive, they are well worth the money as they are quite effective (and I say that from personal experience). If I were you, I would make sure to drink a lot of water every day, and spend some time running every time, it works for me every time. But just as a word of warning, everybody is different, I have a very fast metabolism, so marijuana breaks down in my system very quickly, therefore simply running and drinking water will suffice. I can pass a drug test in 10 days while many people have to wait a month, or even 90 days. So with that I'll leave you this advice. Run and drink plenty of water every day. Then pick up a simple urine drug test at any local pharmacy. If you test negative you don't have to worry about spending money on an expensive detox product. If you test positive dig up 30 bucks and go detox (remember to drink plenty of water before and after you detox!!), this way you really can't fail a drug test. Good luck! I've been where you are now many times so don't worry and just follow my advice! It depends. Sorry to dissapoint you, but unless the marijuana is cooked in a way which activates the THC, it wont work at all.

This is why we need to cook it in a fatty base (usually butter but can be milk, cream, cheese, tofu etc) at high temperatures to release the THC and infuse it in the fat.

Simply eating plain, dried marijuana straight out of the baggie will not affect you, you will just digest it and would represent a terrible waste!

As for properly prepared and cooked marijuana, it largely depends on the speed at which it is digested. I would recommend not eating anything for 6 hours beforehand, this way it will start digesting immediately and you should feel effects within half an hour, peaking at about 90 minutes.

I hope this has been helpful and answered your question :)

That person is completely wrong, that's like saying vitamins need a certain temperature to work. You should begin to feel the effects whenever it hits your large intestine.

The person above me, who claims the person above him is wrong, is wrong. Similar to the conversion of ibotenic acid to muscimol in Amanita mushrooms, the THC in marijuana must be decarboxylated to become active. High heat will get this done :)
