How long does it take for novocaine to wear off?In: Dental Health

Answer
Individual patients vary. It also depends on the length of time or the patients pain threshold as to how much Novocaine the dentist gives them and what procedure the dentist is doing. Therefore, the freezing can come out in a matter of 15 minutes when you walk out of the dentist's office or take a couple of hours. I just had some work done on my teeth and more often than not the freezing is out before 1/2 an hour of leaving my dentist's office, but, I did have some extensive work done on a couple of teeth (had more Novocaine) and found my mouth was still frozen after an hour. I realized if I had tea (or for some people they prefer coffee) I would check it with my finger just so it was hot, but not hot enough to burn my mouth and after sipping on the tea it helped the freezing leave sooner. So now, if I have to go to the dentist and have more Novocaine than usual I'll come home and drink my tea.
