Time of 24 hours or less ->If you suspect that a person is abusing a child then contact CPS (Child protective services) in your area and file a report,When CPS receives a report of suspected abuse they send out an investigator within 24 hours or sooner to examine and interview the child and the suspected abuser...Charges can be filed by the incestigator and the suspected abuser arrested...
Charged/arrested on the spot-> If you actually witness the person abuse the child then immediately contact the police department..They will come and interview the child and the abuser (seperately) and if they find enough cause the person will be charged and arrested right then...

∙ 11y agoEach state has their own set of guidelines as to how long an investigation may take. This information is generally in writing and given to all parties involved at the beginning of an investigation. Most states also disclose the estimated deadlines on-line (such as, it can take up to 45 day for an investigation to be completed). Places to research are your Prosecuting Attorney (District/Commonwealth), Local Authorities (Sheriff/Police), Social Services or Child Protective Services websites. Another great place to gain information is your local law library. They will not be able to give you legal advice, but they can give you information on definitions and procedures. Something to keep in mind is that if said child suffered injuries (no matter how minor), authorities can not begin their decision making phase until ALL medical treatment is complete (or at least a complete prognosis including a concrete realm of time is given for improvement or descent is given) for their forensic personnel to do a complete work-up on.
