It can take a couple of days to get into your system. You have to give it time. Just because you take one or two tablets in the beginning and you feel nothing, doesn't mean you better take a few more. Methadone doesn't work that way. It has to build up gradually into your system. Then you maintain that level of methadone in your body by taking it the way the doctor prescribes it.
It is used as a long term pain reliever not for acute pain. If you do decide to ask about this medicine for chronic long term pain, make sure you ask a lot of questions. Make sure this is the medicine you want to use. It is highly addictive and you can't just stop cold turkey. The withdrawals are are terrible. Let the doctor wean you off of it.
