If you have a sprig of spearmint with roots on it and put it in the ground it will cover a flowerbed in one season.... It is very invasive . I guess where you live has something to do with how invasive it is.... In the Southern US it is really invasive.

The Herb Mint is a Perennial plant and can be grown successfully from seed or cuttings. Sow seeds from March to April outdoors for a crop late summer.
