I took Lexapro for quite sometime. I'm off of it now and I'm losing lots of weight, but I'm sure it due to stress. Not a good method. Anti-Depressants should reduce snacking. Alot of snacking is from stress, nervousness, and a HUGE comfort zone...

Lexapro can cause weight gain and this is disclosed in the clinical trials, it is just downplayed and spun. In clinical trials, Lexapro was shown to be weight gain neutral. This is different than other SSRIs that appear to cause weight gain. This is very different than being shown to have no effect on weight. This means that just as mean people in the Lexapro group gained weight as lost weight. What's important is that the number of people that changed weight in the Lexapro group was significantly larger than that of the placebo group indicating that Lexapro does impact weight. What this really means is that Lexapro can increase or decrease weight depending on the person. Scientists really do not know why this is the case.

With that said, there were still many people in the placebo group that gained weight, so it is very difficult to attribute all of the weight gain to Lexapro.

After withdrawing from Lexapro, it may or may not cause a change in weight. There are currently no clinical trials or studies that have been conducted studying this aspect.

First, you shouldn't stop "cold-turkey" to avoid side effects of withdrawal. The general rule-of-thumb would be about a week, BUT the therapeutic effect of the medication will gradually reduce beginning the day you stop taking it.

OMG same question here. I have gained about 60 pounds while on Effexor and have quit it 10 days ago, but while I was a stable 160 while on it, now that I quit it I see that I have gained 2 pounds!!! How the heck is that possible. HELP!!

Lexapro often increases weight gain while on it and then after you stop its pretty much up to the individual on their eating habits. In my experience its not that it makes you eat more, it just makes you feel less motivated to be active.

There is no magic answers. I put weight on with antidepressants and all you have to do is eat right and exercise.

Depends on you metabolism. I know 2 people who quit. one it took over a year, the other lost in about 3 months.
