Depends on how much work you put into a movie and how consistant you are in completing it. Some start a movie and wait a week to continue filming. Others waste no time and film everyday. Movies that contain alot of action and special effects require about 6 months or longer (years). So producers need to make sure that the movie they're making is worth the time and effort.

However, if you're talking an average 2 hour movie, filming for 12-18 hours per day (that's realistic), you're looking at 14-20 days of shooting, factoring in times for reshoots, waiting for proper light, etc.

All depends upon the length and quality of the movie logically, but as an indication it took 300 international animators 3 years to produce the 1937 version of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Its a very lengthy process! For 3 minute video clip with integrated animation the band icubus spent 50 hours hand drawing the frames.

The makers of SOUTH PARK use computers to recreate the 'construction paper' style of their original animation efforts. With their huge budget, they undoubtedly use proprietary software developed just for them by paid experts to make the creative process very simple and quick from a relative, technical point of view.

A typical Pixar film will take at most 6 years to complete. The Story often takes the longest to develop, and can stay in the story department for development, or will be pitched to the side for later work.

Why do Pixar films take so long to come out in the UK?

As with any film, its origin country usually displays the film first. While it is being displayed in the states, business negotiations and release planners work with British theater companies to plan the release. Pixar also likes to re-render a few scenes for international viewing. An example is in toy story 2, Buzz Lightyear begins to talk while an American flag is displayed on the television background, while in the U.K edition, a globe is spinning. The film then must be developed by Kodak and sent to the British Theaters.
