It depends on the tolerance of the patient to opiates, but generally that dosage lasts between 4-6 hours before you start feeling it wear off and having the pain come back.. What you're describing is the generic version of Percocet.

Since that dose is using the lowest Tylenol component (325mg) you can boost the effectiveness by taking additional Tylenol with it. Don't exceed 750mg per dose, combining the drug and the extra Tylenol.

One mistake many people make is to wait until the dose wears off or to see how long they can go without taking it because they're afraid of becoming dependent. That's old thinking, and stupid to boot because you're only hurting yourself. It took me a very long time to get away from that kind of thinking.

Research has since determined that if a patient takes the prescribed dose on time as directed when directed and not PRN (as needed), the patient actually feels better, gets more relief, and winds up using less medication. I've found that to be the truth as I've been in pain management and an opiate patient for 10 years.

OxyContin is the time release version of Oxycodone. It's advertised effectiveness for the standard dosage is 12 hours, which is why it is commonly used for chronic pain and not as a 6 hour acute pain drug that most are prescribed.

Over time, tolerance will reduce that 12 hour effectiveness to even 7 or 8 hours. Many years ago before I switched to Duragesic, I was only getting 7 hours out of them, and the dropoff is fairly steep (point where dose wears off and withdrawals/pain return). You can extend the effectiveness with Delsym 12 hour cough suppressant - the primary ingredient helps extend the life of OxyContin. Check with your doctor though before using that with it.

The effect will last for about 6 hours.

54-543 is just the marking on the pill. 10-325 is the amount of oxycodone (10) to APAP (325). So long story short, no it is not, 54-325 is the next level down generic.

Will Oxycodone and Percocet show up as the same thing on a drug test?

Percocet contains Oxycodone, so naturally it will show up the same on a drug test.Percocet is the brand name for the combination of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen (Tylenol), represented by 2 separate dosages on the pill. For example, 5/500 is 5mg of Oxycodone and 500mg of Tylenol. I myself use 10/325's.By contrast, Percodan is the brand name for Oxycodone and Aspirin tablets. It's not as often prescribed for long-term use since aspirin is much harder on the stomach in quantities used by long term patients.
