∙ 12y agoA chicken called Mike was decapitated in the 1940's by his owner Lloyd Olsen. However Olsen didn't cut off the brain stem low enough, leaving the chicken alive... and headless.
The chicken survived for 18 months without a head, and only died when the pipette that Olsen used to drop water down the chicken's airway, to stop it from closing, was left behind on a circus tour.

Ordinarily however chickens don't live for too long without a head. Most of the running around and twitching is merely stray nerve impulses.
