Best Answer

The last major eruption of Mount Vesuvius was in 1944, during the Second World War when the Allies were advancing North through Italy. British and American army engineers played a major role in evacuating local people from the area around the mountain, and also in treating the injured and making damaged buildings safe. Since then, Vesuvius has had several very minor 'rumbles', though no real reuptions to speak of.

1944 was its last eruption although it is more well known for its eruption in 79ad eg the destruction of pompeii. Vesuvius is famed for being the most dangerous volcano in the world as it has nearly 3,000,000 living nearby.. Hope this helps

Vesuvius has been active for thousands of years and is still an active volcano. Today over 3 million people live under it so it is one of the most watched volcanoes in the world. When it erupted in 79AD it buried 65 acres of land and towns, changed the Italian coast line, and killed thousands. There was another eruption in 1944 that was not explosive, but was a slow moving lava. Again, towns in the area were destroyed. If it does erupt today escape for some would be impossible.
