Cookie Monster has been on Sesame Street since it started, which I believe was 1969. I remember watching the premier episode. It was broadcast in prime time on PBS, but then moved to daytime for children to watch.

His first appearance was as an unnamed puppet in 1966 & 1967 for a series of commercials.

He appeared, still unnamed in the first episode of Sesame Street w/ Kermit in 1969 but didn't officially become 'Cookie Monster' until 1971.
1971 was his first appearance as officially "Cookie Monster"

Is the cookie monster now the vegetable monster?

No, this is yet another internet myth, based on an online rumor from 2005, long before Mrs. Obama became First Lady. There were rumors that since cookies are considered bad for kids, even Cookie Monster would be forced to change. Later, these rumors were simply superimposed on Michelle Obama's advocacy for healthier eating. But Mrs. Obama never made any such demand of Sesame Street, nor has Cookie Monster changed his name. That said, Mrs. Obama has certainly advocated for kids eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, and there have been some jokes about "veggie monster," but that is all they are-- jokes.

Name a famous show on pbs?

One famous show on PBS is "Sesame Street." It is a beloved educational children's show that has been on the air since 1969 and features iconic characters like Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster. The show is known for its entertaining and educational content that helps children learn letters, numbers, and other important skills.

Was the cookie monster Sesame Streets idea?

Not exactly. Jim Henson developed a kind of proto-Cookie Monster (with teeth) for a snack food called "Wheels"... the monster was called the "Wheel-Stealer." The commercial featuring him was never actually aired. The basic design was reused for a Doritos commercial later, and then eventually with some modifications on Sesame Street. You'll notice the basic theme... ravenously devouring snack foods... has essentially always been present, it was just adapted to cookies generically rather than being a specific brand of snack.
