According to the measurements I got from Google Maps, the total length of the Boardwalk, from one end to the other (Coney Island to Brighton Beach) is approximately 2.5 miles.
The Jones Beach boardwalk is 2 miles one way.
The F.D.R. Boardwalk is 2½ miles long.

They are right next to each other. Brighton Beach is the neighborhood east of Coney Island. If you walk east on the boardwalk from Coney Island, you end up on Brighton Beach.
There are many alluring attractions at Coney Island. There is a beach and boardwalk, rides, a carousel, and a ferris wheel. There are also restaurants and food stands.
Because it once was. Now it is a peninsula. It was separated from the rest of Long Island by a narrow creek, called Coney Island Creek. The center of the creek (the part that separated Coney Island from mainland Long Island) was filled in sometime in the early 20th century, turning Coney Island into a peninsula.
