How long is a basketball game? |
[Edit] |
Answer
A basketball game is generally divided into two halves, each ranging from twelve to twenty-four minutes (depending on the league). Many youth leagues play four quarters (as does the National Basketball Association). Play starts with a jump ball at center court. After each quarter (or at halftime) teams switch sides. Each team is permitted a certain number of time-outs per half (again depending on league rules). If a game ends in a tie, overtime periods of up to five minutes are usually played until one team outscores the other to win.
Answer
Usually forty-eight minutes. An NBA game has four twelve-minute quarters. If the game is tied at the and of the fourth quarter, the teams play a five-minute overtime period. If the score is still tied after the overtime period, then the teams play a second overtime, and so on. NBA games cannot end in a tie.
If you are talking about when the ball is in play then yeah you are right. but you aren't taking in count time-outs, half time, between quarters, fouls, (that second or two after they make a basket) and all of that stuff....it all adds up...and a basketball game lasts between an hour and a half to 2 hours on average...not 48 minutes — due to all that red tape in between!
