It takes 4-7 weeks to show symptoms of mono after you get it. During those weeks you are contagious. Also, during the time you feel sick -- which is typically 1-4 weeks, but for some people can be a couple of months -- you are contagious. After you have mono you continue to have the virus in your body for the rest of your life. There are only rare occasions where you actually get the symptoms again. Some studies say that, for up to 18 months after your feel sick, you are contagious. However, contrary to popular belief, mono is not very contagious. Yes, it is known as "the kissing disease," but a peck will not spread it; it requires more of a deep, open mouth kiss to contract it.
