∙ 13y agoWell, part of New York City is on Long Island. New York City is made up of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Brooklyn and Queens take up the western end of Long Island. And Brooklyn and Queens are just across the East River from Manhattan.
Long Island is 118 miles long, from the western tip of Brooklyn (Brooklyn extends further west than Queens) to Montauk at the eastern end.
From Long Island City, Queens (which is located at the edge of the East River, directly across from Manhattan) to Montauk is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to 3 hours on the Long Island Railroad (the LIRR). From Penn Station in Manhattan to Montauk is approximately 3 hours to 3 hours and 15 minutes.
