Any where from 6 hours to 3 days. Vegetarian diets are more quickly digested than carnivorous ones. You can test your own digestion time by eating something that you passes through like corn, but be sure to not have eaten that food for a few days to ensure the food coming out was the same that went in.

Previous answer: It takes 28 hours for food to pass through the human gut

Improved answer: That would depend on the type of food, the quantity and who's gut. As an example; meat is more difficult to digest and therefore takes longer. A larger quantity of that same meat would extend digestive time. A quarter of a cantaloupe, on the other hand, would pass through fairly quickly. Some people don't produce enough stomach acid for proper digestion and would have a slower transition rate though the stomach while others are so constipated that fecal matter can back up as far as into their stomach; this would definitely impair food transition times as well as causing myriads of other problems. It takes approximately 12hrs for a 4oz. steak to digest and clear the stomach if all is working properly. Quantities larger than this have been known to putrefy before digestion is complete. Cooked whole kernel corn is difficult to digest and can serve as a way to time food transition through the gut as long as it isn't eaten too repetitively in the week. Just mark your calendar and be observant. Age of the gut would usually be a variable as well.
