Handling new puppies

Puppies are not like birds- mom will not shun it because you touched it. But she will be protective of her new pups. She will let you know when she's OK with it, and that depends on how well you know her and her personality. I had one dog so clueless I was catching them as they came out of her, while she wandered around the kitchen freaking out. Those puppies got handled by me more than her in the first couple hours. Another dog had her dogs in an area under the kitchen table, and fiercly defended that whole side of the room for days. Just make sure for the first couple weeks that you are washing your hands and upper arms well before handling them.

Mom/dad birds don't shun their babies either when humans touch them (it's a myth).

It's good to start handling puppies after they're born, especially to help them find a teat on their mother. Thereafter, puppies should be held and pet by humans regularly to start their socialization.

Watch the mother dog when you go near the pups. She will let you know by the way she acts when it suits her for you to touch them. If she gets agitated or appears upset at all, it's too early...don't touch them yet or she might reject them.

i can wait a long time i don't like puppies

just kidding really though you should wait till the mom feels comfortable with you handling them i would sneak them out one at a time while mommy was pre occupies with the others about an hour after the last one was born but i didn't hold and cuddle with them just check to see if mom cut any of them when breaking the sac they need to stay with mom as much as possible for warmth and so they will suckle

Actually you can handle them just after birth. Not too much though, just a little every day to let them know your scent and manners to get them used to people.

You should wait until the mother has cleaned and fed them, and then she will probably want some sleep at that point. When she seems comfortable with you approaching then its okay.

Because it's newborn, you should probably put it with its mother quickly before it starves. But newborn puppies can last up 45 minutes without their mother's milk. How long do people need to keep newborn dockson puppies?

If the puppies are with the mother then you should keep them with her until 8 weeks of age. The mother will instinctively wean the puppies on her own, but you may need to help her by removing her from the puppies. The puppies can technically be taken away after 6 weeks, but the longer the puppies are with the mother the better because they will learn from their mother.

When can you touch a newborn baby?

You can but you should be careful, the mother will be very protective until they are six weeks old. If you touch puppies before then the mother may not feed them and then the puppies will die. And if you want them to stay alive please don't touch them and then you don't have to worry about the puppies dying. You can handle newborns if the mother isn't feeding them it doesn't mean they will die you can bottle feed them
