It all depends on what colledge you go to. Sometimes 4, and sometimes more. Fact--Each state has its own rules of licencing, in Minnesota you are required to take 90 hours of pre-license courses, course 1, 2, & 3, each course is 30 hours, then required to take a two part State test, administered by the state, pass that and pay a fee, then you are a real estate agent! To become a Realtor you must join the local, state, and National Association of Realtors, approx. $400 dollars, also many other fees for the MLS, errors and ommisions insurance, ect. depending on the brokerage you join.

As a licensed Realtor in the State of Iowa, I can tell you that (here in IA for sure) I had to take a 60 hr class through the Iowa Board of Realtors, then I had to pay $125 for the state board exam, earn a satisfactory grade on that BIG test, Get fingerprinted and have an extensive background check, then send the fingerprint card into the Iowa Board of Realtors here in the state capital, wait about 1 1 1/2 months til I received notification via USPS that my fingerprint card and background check have finished processing, pay $1500 to the Local, State, And National Boards, and you are in. I am now a waitress. Don't do it.

This is a state-specific question. Some states may require a 2- or 4-year college degree in addition to specific real estate education; other states require so many hours of pre-licensing, adult-education courses, but no college degree.

Licensing requirements vary from state to state, but in general, no college is required to sell real estate. You must complete a real estate course, often given by real estate companies and pass the test to obtain a license.

The term is used in the US and the details will vary by state. You will need to consult with the specific state to see what is expected. Some states require advanced studies plus practical experience as an agent. Other states only require advanced study so a newly licensed person can immediately become a broker if they have the background and pass the exams.

Take California for example. The The California Department of Business and Professional Regulation (CDBPR) requires real estate broker licensees to complete 360 hours of pre-licensing courses. Our online package satisfies all California DPBR requirements and gives you the flexibility to take your real estate broker pre-licensing courses whenever and wherever it's convenient for you. If you are new to the industry, we recommend our 360-hour Broker Qualification Package, but if you already have a few real estate credits, then you may select our individual courses available below.

You don't need a degree. However, you do need to undertake several courses and pass examinations in them in order to obtain a licence and act as an agent trading in real estate. The details vary with the geographical jursidiction, but usually require you to work under the direction of a local brokerage company and to abide by a Code of Ethics and Rules of Business Conduct.

In the state of Nevada, you do not have to have a college degree to become a real estate sales agent. In order to obtain a sales license applicants must show, pursuant to NAC 645.435, proof of completion of the required 90 hours or 6 semester units of instruction in real estate principles, practices and law from a Nevada Real Estate Commission accredited provider . The course must include a minimum of 18 hours of Nevada law, consisting of NRS 645, 119, 119A, 119B and their respective administrative codes. Certified transcripts must be submitted with the license application. Copies of certified transcripts are accepted.

Applicants must show proof of passing the national and Nevada state exam within one year of the application date. Applicants may use their national examination results from another state (if dated within one year of the date of application for a Nevada real estate license) but must show proof of those results.
